Nestled between South Africa and Mozambique one finds the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland. One of the\u00a0<\/span>
\nlast absolute monarchies in the world with customs and traditions as old as those of the Chinese. The\u00a0<\/span>
\ncurrent king, Mswati the Third, ascended to the throne some 25 years ago at the age of 18. He is\u00a0<\/span>
\nprobably better known for his multitude of wives (more than 20)! The Swazi king is expected to take a\u00a0<\/span>
\nwife from each of the twenty tribes in Swaziland for political reasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Swaziland is a country with low crime, high literacy and extremely friendly people. It is also one of\u00a0<\/span>
\nTaiwan’s diplomatic allies. For this reason a number of Taiwanese families have made Swaziland their\u00a0<\/span>
\nhome. The government of Taiwan is also involved in a number of initiatives in Swaziland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I had the privilege of visiting Swaziland on my recent trip home to South Africa. The country is\u00a0<\/span>
\nsurrounded by mountains and the scenery is breathtaking. Prices are reasonable and accommodation of\u00a0<\/span>
\nworld class quality. For those who like to gamble, Swaziland is well-known for its high class casinos\u00a0<\/span>
\nwhich are linked to the casinos in neighboring South Africa to ensure jackpots worth millions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All traditional African souvenirs are handmade and are sold at rock-bottom prices. Each piece is thus\u00a0<\/span>
\nunique.\u00a0<\/span>
\nSwaziland has a very nice climate as it is near the Indian Ocean.\u00a0<\/span>
\nFor those who want to self-drive the roads are very good. Just watch out for the Swazi traffic lights\u00a0<\/span>
\n(domestic cattle crossing the road at will)! Also remember to pull off the road and come to a complete\u00a0<\/span>
\nstandstill should the Royal motorcade come down the road. I luckily remembered this rule just in time\u00a0<\/span>
\nor otherwise I might have been famous for the person who smashed into the King’s new Mercedes!<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
